Iceland
Try Iceland for somewhere really different!
This is where the tectonic plates for Europe and the American continents meet. Its history of volcanic eruptions is evident everywhere on this lava ridden island.
Take a trip to the geysers (pronounced geysers) to watch their regular spouts of hot water which go up to 130 feet into the air and visit the Gullfoss Falls – the most beautiful waterfalls on the island.
Not to be missed at any cost is the Blue Lagoon where you can bathe in the blue thermal waters. Don’t let modesty stop you enjoying this wonderful experience, particularly ethereal in winter when the steam from the waters send steam up into the atmosphere.
Reykjavik, capital of Iceland, nestles next to the sea and is dominated by the beautiful Hallgrim’s church. The city is full of colourful houses and a huge number of handicraft shops to occupy the long hours of winter darkness.
All in all a most unusual destination – and don’t worry about the language – many of the population are only too happy to try their English out on you!
