Day 1 - Flew Air canada to Calgary from London Heathrow. Good flight, great cabin attendents (discount next flight, Air canada?) <G>
Day 2. Picked up the rental and headed for the mountians taking the 'old' road. Our journey through the Canadian Rockies started in Canmore, just outside the National Park boundary. Before exploring the
park proper we took a side trip into the Spray Lakes area. The shale road was fun to drive combined with a bit of snow and ice. Dinner in the hotel - jet lag was cathching up.
Day 3. Early rise,
5am in the hope of catching a few 'wild' animals. Once in Banff national Park we drove the 'old' road to Lake Louise - the scenic drive took over 5 hours to complete and was only about 60 kms long. Banff was quiet at 6am so we returned to it later in the day and tried out the Sulphur Mountain Gondola and the hot springs. Lake loise was frozen with many people walking on the ice. The victoria Glacier looked beautiful as did the surrounding mountains.
On the return to Banff a further detour was made around the Miniwanka Loop where Big horn Sheep and Mountain Goats were seen, at peace with the world, just licking salt from the road. The water of the
lakes was the most beautiful blue/green.
We took a very late gondola up Sulphur Mountain giving glorious views over Banff in the early evening light. The inspiring day was capped with a dip in the Hot Springs and a meal at the Keg.
Bye, bye Canada - As Arnie said "I'll be back!"
